CHEF TIM PAGE HONORED
Tim Page, culinary arts teacher at Daniel Morgan Technology Center, has been named the South Carolina ProStart Teacher of the Year by the South Carolina Hospitality Association
Page is in his sixth year of teaching the ProStart curriculum. His students leave his classroom with the knowledge and skills that it takes to succeed. Teams from Daniel Morgan Technology Center have competed in the past four state ProStart competitions. In the last three years, Page’s teams have take home one first place and two second place finishes. In 2009 DMTC’s Culinary Arts team represented South Carolina in the National ProStart invitational. COWPENS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS RAISE MONEY FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS The Cowpens Elementary School Student Council recently sponsored a fund raising event, “Hope for Haiti”, in an effort to raise money for the victims of the recent earthquake.

DANIEL MORGAN CULINARY TEAM PLACES SECONDThe Daniel Morgan Technology Center Culinary Arts Competition Team, under the guidance of Chef Tim Page, finished second in this year’s State Culinary Arts Cup competition. The competition took place in Myrtle Beach on January 25 and 26.

LOCAL TEACHER HONORED WITH STATE VFW AWARDOn February 12, 2010, State Commander Albert Landsperger, State Senior Vice Ronald Bullock and Commander Glen Adams, Post 9539 of the South Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars, announced that Spartanburg School District Three teacher Paula Kendrick has been named the recipient of the 2009 South Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars State Teacher Award.

Fifth grader Sadie Rogers of Cowpens Elementary School and Caitlin Lollis, eighth grader at Middle School of Pacolet, have been named District Three’s winners in the annual State Superintendent of Education Writing Awards Program. The program, formerly known as the Lieutenant Governor’s Writing Awards, began in 1979 to encourage students in grades 5 and 8 to improve their writing and communication skills. The State Superintendent’s Office began sponsoring the program in 2008. Students complete a 250-400 word essay on a topic assigned for each of the two grade levels. More...
Lorraine Moore, academic gifted and talented teacher for Spartanburg School District Three, received a $5000 National Education Association (NEA) grant. Moore will be using the grant award for Solar Science/Solar Society; a study designed for fourth and fifth grade gifted students to experience the power of solar energy – as scientists and as citizens.
