SEPTEMBER

PSAT for Juniors
Any JUNIOR that wants to take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 12th needs to register in Guidance by Friday, September 30th.  The cost for juniors taking the 2022 PSAT is $18.00.  The PSAT scores determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship.

USC Columbia Honors College High School Writing Contest
The USC Columbia Honors College High School Writing Contest test is open to South Carolina high school juniors and seniors in public, private and home schools. Students must be residents of South Carolina. Cash prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250 will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. OCTOBER

Financial Aid Workshop
Bobby Holcombe, Director of Financial Aid at the University of South Carolina Union, will present a Financial Aid Workshop on Thursday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the Broome cafeteria.  This workshop will involve instructions on how to complete the 2023-2024 Financial Aid Form for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA is required by all schools of higher education to be considered for: Grants, College Work Study, Loans, and the Lottery Tuition Assistance Program. Other types of financial aid, such as scholarships and loans will be discussed.

High School Heisman™ Award
The Heisman® High School Scholarship supports education, recognizes achievement, and celebrates male and female community-minded high school student athletes around the country. Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Program
The Voice of Democracy audio-essay program is open to students in grades 9 – 12.  This is a unique opportunity to express yourself in regard to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.  The national first place winner will receive a $25,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college, or vocational/technical school.  The first-place winner from each VFW Department (state) will win at least a scholarship of $1,000. Coca-Cola Scholars Program

NOVEMBER

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship
The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Two of Davidson College’s largest scholarships are The John M. Belk Scholarship (deadline 12/1/22) and the Lowell L. South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program

Clemson University’s Lyceum Scholars
The Lyceum Scholars Program is a four-year academic program open to incoming freshman.  As a Lyceum Scholar, you will study the moral, political, and economic foundations of a free society. Burger King® Scholars Program
High school seniors that plan to attend a two or four-year accredited university can apply for the Burger King® Scholars Program.  You must have a 2.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.  Scholarships range from $1,000 to $50,000.  You may apply beginning October 15, 2022.  Apply at https://burgerking.scholarsapply.org/register.php. JANUARY

Presbyterian College’s Service Entrepreneurship Competition 
Students must apply and submit a proposal to Presbyterian College by December 1st to be eligible for their Service Entrepreneurship Competition scholarship.  Students have the chance to earn a full ride to PC for solving a problem in their community.  The top prize is a full scholarship, which covers full tuition, fees, room, and board.  Runner-up receives a $34,000 scholarship, and honorable mentions receive $30,000 scholarships.  All receive up to $10,000 in the form of coaching, mentoring, and independent study class credit to put their plans into action.  To apply visit https://www.presby.edu/admissions/tuition-aid/scholarships/service-entrepreneurship-competition/.  DEADLINE: THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JANUARY 8, 2023

Kittie Moss Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship
To apply for the Kittie Moss Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship you must be a high school senior planning to attend full-time at an accredited four-year college or university in SC, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrate a financial need.  This scholarship is for one year only.  Apply online at https://www.csascholars.org/kmfr.

South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship
The South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation offers four (4) scholarships for SC high school seniors.  Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate financial need, and have a competitive or recreational interest in golf. Bezos Scholars Program
The Bezos Scholars Program is a year-long leadership program, for high school juniors/rising seniors, that inspires and challenges young people to act on their passions and collaborate to address community needs. PHADA Scholarship Program
The PHADA Scholarship Program offers three scholarships, ranging from $5,000 to $7,000, to seniors planning to pursue their education after graduation.  Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Applicants must reside in a PHADA member agency owned or managed unit throughout his/her entire senior year.  Public housing residents, Section 8 participants, or other low-income housing residents are eligible, as long as the agency at which you reside is a PHADA member. Berry College
Berry College in Georgia is doubling their enrollment of nursing students and have increased nursing scholarships, funded by a recent $5 million gift.  They have a new fast track to graduation for first-year and transfer students with AP/Dual Enrollment or other credits.  To learn more visit www.berry.edu/majors/nursing.

Hampton Wildlife Fund Scholarships
 
The Hampton Wildlife Fund offers five (5) scholarships to SC graduating seniors:  The Harry Hampton, Thomas W. Hardwick, Jr., Wallace F. Pate, David M. Cline, and James O. Thomason Scholarships.  These scholarships are for seniors pursuing their education in:  the natural resources discipline, law enforcement/criminal justice/forensic science, or in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations, or mass communications.  The scholarship application and details are available at http://www.HamptonWildlifeFund.org/scholarship.html. FEBRUARY

South Carolina Federal Credit Union Scholarship
The South Carolina Federal Credit Union Scholarship will award 9 scholarships, with denominations between $2,500 - $10,000.  You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and planning to attend a four-year college/university on a full-time basis or a specialized/ technical college/university on a part-time or full-time basis in SC for the fall 2023 semester.  Come to Guidance for details or visit https://www.scfederal.org/scholarship. James F. Byrnes Scholarship Program
The James F. Byrnes Scholarship Program is available to seniors, who have one or both parents deceased, and who plan to seek a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university beginning in the fall of 2023.  The annual award of $4,500 is renewable for a total of four years, contingent upon the recipient’s academic standing. Laurens Electric Cooperative, Inc. Washington Youth Tour & Cooperative Youth Summit
Laurens Electric Cooperative, Inc. is offering four students an expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. or Columbia, S.C. this summer.  Contest winners will also be eligible to compete for up to $5,000 in college scholarships.  High school juniors are eligible for the Washington Youth Tour and high school sophomores are eligible for the Cooperative Youth Summit.  SAT scores, GPAs and rank, and other honors are not the primary consideration in selecting winners; character and community involvement are.  Come to Guidance for an application or visit www.laurenselectric.com/Youth.  DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 3, 2023, NO LATER THAN 5:00 P.M.

Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarship
Seniors residing in 23 counties across Georgia and South Carolina are eligible to apply for the Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarship.  Students must plan to attend a four-year, regionally accredited, non-profit college for the 2022-2023 school year. Scholarships are awarded based on need, as well as merit.  Scholarships are $6,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate education. The Silver Pen Writing Competition
The Silver Pen Writing Competition is hosted through Summit Hills retirement community and is open to graduating seniors that attend a school within 25 miles of Summit Hills.  You must write a 1000-word essay on an assigned topic.  Come to Guidance for details.  There are three scholarship awards:  $2,500, $750, and $500.  Apply online at http://Silverpen-Slc.comDEADLINE: FEBRUARY 10, 2023

SC Alpha Beta Memorial Scholarship for Future Women Educators
The members of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa offer the SC Alpha Beta Memorial Scholarship for Future Women Educators, a scholarship for female seniors who will be pursuing a career in education.  The scholarship amount of $750 is renewable each year, if the scholarship requirements are met.  Come to Guidance for details and an application. Coolidge Scholars Program for JUNIORS
The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at an accredited college or university in the U.S.  Any JUNIOR that plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2024 and is an American Citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply.  Academic excellence is the primary criterion considered. Mary Wheeler Davis Scholarship
The Mary Wheeler Davis Scholarship is intended for Spartanburg County high school seniors, who are residents of Spartanburg County and are pursuing careers in the performing or visual arts. Scholarships will be awarded between $1,000-$2,000 per student to the college, university, or accredited program of the student's choice. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The Spartanburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is now accepting applications for the Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship. Female African American seniors, residing in Spartanburg, Cherokee, or Union counties, that have applied or been accepted to enter an accredited four-year university or college as a full-time student, are eligible to apply. Iris Incorporated Education Scholarship
The Iris Incorporated Education Scholarship is open for seniors in Union, Cherokee, and Spartanburg counties.  You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, submit a 300 word essay on volunteerism, application must be signed before submitting, and Guidance will need to mail your official transcript. USC Upstate Promise Scholarship
USC Upstate will award 90 Promise Scholarships.  To be eligible, students must be admitted to USC Upstate, complete the FAFSA, and be eligible for the Life or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. Spartanburg Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club Chapter

USC Upstate CRISPR Scholarship Program
USC Upstate has a new scholarship program called CRISPR (Career Readiness to Inspire STEM Proficiency & Retention). This scholarship is for students that are planning to attend USC Upstate and are interested in majoring in biology or chemistry. USC Aiken Scholars Program
Attention ALL Juniors! USC Aiken would like to announce their Junior Scholars Program. To qualify students must: 
  • rank in the top 15 percent of their junior class, and  
  • score a minimum of 1100 on the SAT, or 1100 PSAT (critical reading/math) or 21 ACT or PLAN  
  • participate in a college prep curriculum  
  • participate in at least two extracurricular activities

USC Upstate Junior Scholars
Attention any JUNIORS interested in attending USC Upstate in Spartanburg, SC, should see Mrs. Clary in Guidance to determine if you are eligible for the USC Upstate Junior Scholar Award.  This award recognizes outstanding high school juniors for being academically talented, ranked in the top 25% of their class, and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  In addition to the academic requirements, participation in extracurricular activities at school or in the community is a factor in being nominated.  DEADLINE: MARCH 15, 2023

Horatio Alger Scholarship
As one of the nation's largest need-based college scholarship programs in the country, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Program seeks to assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. Kiwanis Club of Spartanburg Scholarship
The Kiwanis Club of Spartanburg is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior from a Spartanburg County school.  The student must enroll in the fall at one of the following:  Wofford College, Converse College, USC Upstate, Spartanburg Methodist College, or Spartanburg Community College.  Student must have a financial need.  Only two applicants can be submitted from Broome.  Come to Guidance for an application.  DEADLINE:  RETURN TO MRS. Spartanburg County Anonymous Scholarship
The Spartanburg County Anonymous Scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship that will be awarded to a graduating senior that will be attending an accredited two-year or four-year college or university.  Preference will be given to a student that will be a first-generation college attendee, and the student must demonstrate financial need.  Broome can only submit two applicants.  Come to Guidance for an application. Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship
The Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior of a secondary school in the Southeastern United States and or participate in a prior Bobby Chapman Invitational.  The Scholarship Committee will only accept five applications per high school.  The scholarship committee will select a total of ten (10) recipients, renewing annually, for $1,500 per year for four years.  The student recipient may or may not be a golfer and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.  Come to Guidance for details and an application. AHAM (American Hispanic Women Association) Scholarship
Candidates must be of Hispanic origin or descent (from a Spanish speaking country, first or second generation), have legal presence in the USA, be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited university, technical college, or vocational school in the U.S. for the fall of 2023, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and family income must be $60,000 or less. Spartanburg Housing Marche Gault Scholarship
The Spartanburg Housing Marche Gault Scholarship will award four scholarships up to $2,000 to graduating seniors planning on attending a two-year or four-year college or technical school in the fall.  You must have a current GPA of 2.0 or higher and be a current resident and in good standing with Spartanburg Housing Public Housing to apply.  COME TO GUIDANCE FOR AN APPLICATION.  AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT NEEDS TO BE MAILED WITH THE SCHOLARSHIP. SCEAR (South Carolina Education Association – Retired) Scholarship
The SCEAR (South Carolina Education Association – Retired) Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to four graduating seniors planning to pursue a career in education.  The student must be planning to attend an accredited four-year college/university or an accredited two-year college within the state of SC as a full-time student. The Rev. Dr. Calvin Timothy Clark Scholarship

Wofford Scholars Program
Attention ALL Juniors! Wofford College would like to announce their Wofford Scholars Program to students who demonstrate qualities of scholarship, leadership, and potential for success. To qualify as a Wofford Scholar nominee, a student should be ranked in the top 10 percent of the class and have achieved a combined score of 1300 (Critical Reading and Math) on the SAT/PSAT or a 28 on the ACT/PLAN. Nominate juniors who meet any two of the following criteria:
  • One or more of the following test scores: 
    • PSAT (evidence-based reading, writing, and math) score of 1100 or higher
    • SAT (evidence-based reading, writing, and math) score of 1100 or higher
    • ACT Composite score of 22 or higher
  • Ranked in the top 10 percent of the current junior class
  • A weighted GPA of 3.5 or more

Alpha Mu Chapter - Emily L. Martin Educational Incentive Grant
The Alpha Mu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Society International is accepting applications for the Emily L. Martin Educational Incentive Grant in the amount of $800 to a female high school senior in Spartanburg County, who plans to attend a four-year college or university and major in education.  Students must be enrolled in or have taken the Teacher Cadet course.  Come to Guidance for an application and details.  DEADLINE: MARCH 31, 2023

Mark Shaw Memorial Foundation Scholarship
The Mark Shaw Memorial Foundation Scholarship is open for all SC graduating seniors in Spartanburg County, however they would like to award at least one to a senior in Spartanburg County, Mark’s hometown.  This memorial scholarship was created by the family of Mark Shaw, who was a graduate of Byrnes High School Class of 2011. Mark passed away in 2017 and a nonprofit organization was created to commemorate his legacy. Lander Junior Fellows Program
Lander is announcing its annual Junior Fellows Program.  You qualify if you rank in the top 20 percent of your class, have a 25 on the ACT/ PreACT or 1200 on the SAT or PSAT, have at least a 3.5 GPA, and exemplify leadership in both academic and co-curricular activities.  See Mrs. Clary in Guidance if you are interested.  DEADLINE: March 31, 2023

APRIL

Nth Degree Orthodontics Health Science Scholarship
The Nth Degree Orthodontics Health Science Scholarship will award one $1,000 scholarship.  Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career as a dentist and secondary preference will be given to a student seeking a career as a physician, pharmacist, or optometrist.  Students pursuing a career in the allied health sciences (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dental auxiliaries, etc.) will also be considered.  Preference is also given if you are a patient or have been a patient of Nth Degree Orthodontics (previously Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontics).  Come to Guidance for an application and details.  DEADLINE:  RETURN TO MRS. Universal Technical Institute (UTI) 
Universal Technical Institute (UTI) is offering STEM Skilled Trade Conference Events for female high school juniors and seniors to learn more about the careers available in transportation and other skilled STEM trades. Events include a campus tour, hands-on, project-based training exercises, and a panel discussion featuring employers and successful women in the field.  Tuition grants up to $100,000 are available, including a first-place award of up to $25,000.  To apply visit https://www.uti.edu/financial-aid/scholarships-grants.

South Carolina Business Week
South Carolina Business Week will be held on the campus of USC Columbia the week of July 16 - 21, 2023.  South Carolina Business Week gives students an inside look at business in action and is designed to educate high school students on entrepreneurship, leadership, and the American free enterprise system. Students must have completed the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by June 2023, be currently ranked in the top one-third of their class and possess demonstrated leadership skills in school and community activities. Businesses throughout the state will provide sponsorships to those selected.  The only cost to the student will be the $75.00 application fee.  If accepted into the program, students can apply for their scholarships. Converse College Junior Achievers Program
ATTENTION:  Any JUNIOR interested in attending Converse University in Spartanburg, SC, should see Mrs. Clary in Guidance to determine if you are eligible for the Converse Junior Achievers program.  You must be ambitious, creative, and eager.  You should also have a 3.5 GPA or higher.  Converse University is now co-ed, so male students may also apply!

Danny Allen Memorial Scholarship – Upstate Workforce Futures Corporation
The Upstate Workforce Futures Corporation - Danny Allen Memorial Scholarship will award a minimum of two (2) $750 Scholarship for the 2023 school year, to a SENIOR who will attend college in a manufacturing, construction, or technology field.  The goal of the scholarship is to encourage students to attend an institution of higher learning, but also to interest individuals in the fields of advanced manufacturing, skilled construction trades, and technology, which are in high demand in the Upstate of SC.  Students must have a minimum of a “B” average for the current school year.  Come to Guidance for an application and details. CCHRCO Carolinas Council of Housing Redevelopment & Codes Officials
