January Board Meeting Recap

There was a lot to celebrate at last night's District Three Board of Trustees meeting!

First, our Board recognized Presli Linder, a 5k student at Pacolet Elementary School, for being named one of 'Parella's Pals' on WYFF 4 for her amazing artwork! Her work was featured during a weather segment on the morning show. As a result, Presli's teacher is receiving a $100 gift card from WYFF 4 for school supplies.

Ms. Amanda Lee, music teacher at Pacolet Elementary School was recognized for earning the Equitable Arts Advancement Program Grant from the South Carolina Department of Education for the Dazzling Drums project at Pacolet Elementary School.

Ms. Melissa Allen, 4K teacher at Cowpens Elementary School, was recognized for having her CERDEP (Child Early Reading Development Education Program) class noted as an exemplar during a presentation by the South Carolina Department of Education. Her CERDEP class was one of nine recognized statewide!

Ms. Amy Johnston, Band Teacher at Clifdale Middle School, earned a South Carolina Arts Commission Grant and a DonorsChoose project grant. The DonorsChoose grant is known as Odds and Ends for Clifdale Band. She will receive reed guards for clarinet and saxophone players and replacement parts for cymbal stands.

Our football team had an incredible year this year and that can also be said for the team that cares for the field. Our Broome High School football field was named the 2023 South Carolina Football Field of the Year! The recognition comes from the South Carolina Sports Field Management Association and it is thanks to the hard work and dedication of Robby Quinn, Grounds Manager, and Josh Burrell, Matt Harris, David Holland and Troy Lee of the Grounds and Maintenance team and Eddie Wyatt, Director of Facilities and Grounds and Libby Hipps, Administrative Assistant. Robby and his team also won South Carolina Softball Field of the Year in 2020!
They have a tentative date in March to manage and maintain the softball field at Clemson University for a softball game!

We also celebrated our first-ever recipients of the Be the Change! Award. One staff member from each school and the District Office is eligible to receive the award. They are nominated by their peers. It is awarded to those who go above and beyond to inspire students and employees. Last night, we celebrated our first recipients of the award! They are:

Cannons Elementary School: Joy Henderson - Speech Language Pathologist
Cowpens Elementary School: Tonda Bailey – Literacy Coach
Pacolet Elementary School: Amanda Lee - Music Teacher
Clifdale Middle School: Kathryn “Kitty” Smith – 6th Grade Teacher
Broome High School: Chris Wofford – Band Director
Daniel Morgan Technology Center: Heath Roberts - Director
District Office: Molly O’Dell - Director of Exceptional Children

January is Board Appreciation Month! We recognized our incredible Board Members for all they do for our students and staff. They always put our students first and work to ensure all of them have the best possible futures. They signed a pledge to uphold the governance principles from the South Carolina School Boards Association. This year's theme is "In It To Win It" and they do that each and every day for our district. Thank you for your service!

Congratulations to all!
