September Board Meeting Recap

We had the opportunity to celebrate impressive student and staff accomplishments last night at our Spartanburg School District Three Board of Trustees meeting!

Over the summer, five Broome High School students in Mr. Swanger’s Daniel Morgan Technology Center welding program completed Harbor Freight’s 30-hour Explorer Program. This is part of the Harbor Freight Fellow Initiative, which seeks to elevate opportunities and resources for students and their teachers. This initiative offers high school students real-world apprenticing experiences with professional mentors so that they can explore careers in skilled trades and connect with industry professionals. Students who completed the program received a $250 stipend.

These five outstanding students are:

Mason Fortner – 10th grade

Jake Patton – 9th grade

Cole Peahuff – 9th grade

Tanner Bogan – 9th grade

Will Berry – 10th grade

Next, we recognized three Daniel Morgan Technology Center students and their instructors who placed in the SkillsUSA National Competition! These students placed at the state level, allowing them to advance to the national competition, where they competed in June. SkillsUSA is the largest workforce development organization for students. Each year, Career and Technical Education schools from around the country compete. The competition was in Atlanta.

Broome High School and Daniel Morgan Technology Center 12th grade student, Abby Garner, competed in the Screen Printing Division and placed 14th in the nation! We were proud to recognize her and her instructor, Mrs. Hollie Pennington!

Next, we recognized a member of the District Three family who recently celebrated an incredible milestone – 50 years with Spartanburg School District Three!

Mrs. Cathy O’Dell, who serves as our Personnel and Benefits Coordinator, began her journey with District Three on September 8th, 1975. She quickly became an integral part of our district.

Her distinguished record of service and integrity has made a significant impact on generations of colleagues and community members, and we are so proud she is part of the District Three family. Congratulations, Mrs. O’Dell!

Finally, we celebrated Coach Joshua Arthur, Physical Education Teacher at Cannons Elementary School. Coach Arthur recently received a grant from NFL Play 60 for flag football equipment and curriculum. His students will now have the opportunity to be part of a growing sport at a young age!
