Spartanburg School District Three 2025 Hall of Fame Class Announced

We are proud to announce Spartanburg School District Three’s Inaugural Hall of Fame class!

The first-ever inductees into the Spartanburg Three Hall of Fame are Mr. Larry Hodge and Dr. Uzee Brown, Jr.

Mr. Hodge, a 1959 graduate of Pacolet High School, served more than 30 years on the Spartanburg School District Three Board of Trustees. He was the first trustee to serve more than 30 years on the board.

Mr. Hodge was a resource for District Three families, ensuring their voices were heard. He worked closely with municipalities and community leaders to help provide the best possible opportunities for District Three students. Mr. Hodge oversaw numerous changes in District Three during his time on the District Three Board of Trustees, including the consolidation of Cowpens High School and Pacolet High School to form Broome High School. Mr. Hodge passed away in November 2018.

Dr. Brown, a native of Cowpens, is a 1968 graduate of Benjamin E. Mays Consolidated School. Dr. Brown has a built a distinguished career in the arts and currently resides in Atlanta.

Dr. Brown is an opera singer, composer and recently retired professor in the Music Department at Morehouse College. Dr. Brown composed music for two of Spike Lee’s movies, “School Daze” and “Red Hook Summer”. He has also written works for National Public Radio and the Atlanta Symphony, including an orchestral choral setting of “We Shall Overcome” for the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 70th birthday.

Dr. Brown performed during the Inauguration of President Jimmy Carter. He also performed during President Carter’s funeral.

His compositions and arrangements have been performed internationally in cathedrals and concert halls on four continents. Dr. Brown has appeared in numerous national and international operatic performances. He is co-founder of Onyx Opera Atlanta, and is founder and director of the Uzee Brown Society of Choraliers.

A ceremony to induct Mr. Hodge and Dr. Brown will take place during halftime of the October 24th football game at Royal Stadium.
