April Board Meeting Recap

We had the opportunity to recognize several outstanding staff and community members during last night's Board of Trustees meeting!

First, we recognized Mrs. Summer Carling, Science Teacher and AVID Site Coordinator at Broome High School. Mrs. Carling leads Broome AVID's annual Blood Drive. This year, more than 50 students and staff signed up to donate blood. Due to the large turnout, The Blood Connection awarded Broome AVID $1,500! Mr. Jason Agee, Business Development Manager at The Blood Connection, presented the check to Mrs. Carling.

Next, we recognized Mr. Jack McBride, Founder and CEO of Contec, Inc. Mr. McBride is Daniel Morgan Technology Center's Business Partner of the Month. He played an instrumental role in bringing the SME PRIME program to DMTC, making DMTC the first institution in South Carolina to launch the new comprehensive SME PRIME program! We are so grateful for his and Contec, Inc.'s continuous support of students and staff at DMTC.

Finally, we announced our designation as a Purple Star District! This status, through the South Carolina Department of Education, recognizes our commitment to supporting military-connected students and families. Spartanburg School District Three is one of two school districts in Spartanburg County to earn the Purple Star designation and one of 18 districts in the state of South Carolina! We were honored to welcome Mr. Jason Fowler, Deputy Director of Military Affairs for the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs and Dr. Sara Jane Arnett, MCEC State of South Carolina Coordinator.

In attendance were Sgt. Nicholas Brown and his family; Sgt. 1st Class Wes Cockran and his family; and Maj. Rod Camp, JROTC instructor at Broome High School. We thank all of our military families for their service and sacrifice to our country.
