We had the opportunity to recognize several outstanding student and staff accomplishments last night during our Board of Trustees meeting!
First, we recognized three 5th-grade Cowpens Elementary School students who won Broad River Electric Cooperative's Children's Book Challenge. They won out of all students in Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties. Juniper Symons won the Individual Division, while Joanna Patton and Sophia Coyle won the Partner Division.
Each year, students participating in the challenge are required to write and illustrate a children's book. This year's theme was "A Day in the Life of a Lineman." Juniper, Joanna and Sophia completed their research and wrote their books while in Mrs. Summey's library class.

Next, we recognized Broome High School junior Aughtry McAbee, who was selected to attend Palmetto Girls State next month. Palmetto Girls State is a one-week leadership and citizenship training program designed to educate outstanding high school students about state and local government.

We then recognized Jeroboam Leiva, a junior at Broome High School, for being selected to attend Palmetto Boys State next month. Palmetto Boys State provides an opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience in government, public service, and the political process.

Jeroboam was also recognized for winning the 11th grade division of the Judge J. Mark Hayes, II Law Day Essay Contest, competing against students from across Spartanburg County. His award-winning essay will now advance to the statewide division.

During staff recognitions, we recognized 7 members of the D3 family who earned this semester's Be the Change! Award! Recipients are nominated and recognized for the impact they have on their students and peers.

This prestigious honor, through Spartanburg County Foundation, recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding commitment to improving the quality of life in Spartanburg County.

Finally, we recognized Mrs. June Spencer as she prepares to retire. Mrs. Spencer, a social studies teacher at Clifdale Middle, spent 20 years in Spartanburg School District Three. We thank her for her dedication and service to District Three!

Congratulations to all! We are proud of you!
