Spartanburg School District Three

We had the opportunity to celebrate several exciting student and staff accomplishments during last night's Board of Trustees meeting! 

First, we recognized each school's Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year. 

Teacher of the Year: 

We then recognized Mrs. Jana Calvert, Social Studies Department Chair at Broome High School, for presenting at the Annual Advanced Placement Conference in Las Vegas. Her presentation, Increasing Rigor in the AP Classroom, highlighted strategies for strengthening instruction and enhancing student success in Advanced Placement courses. 

Next, we recognized Dr. Nikki Honeycutt and Daniel Morgan Technology Center. During the last few months, DMTC was awarded more than $284,000 in grants:

Anonymous Partner - $100,000

We then recognized Jordan Haydock, a senior at Broome High School and Daniel Morgan Technology Center. Jordan is one of four DMTC students who was selected as a BMW Rising Scholar.

The BMW Rising Scholars Program is a paid, one-year pre-apprenticeship for high school seniors interested in automotive technology, mechatronics, and advanced manufacturing. Students stay in high school while working up to 16 hours a week at BMW and gaining hands-on technical experience. After successfully completing the program, students can become candidates for the BMW Scholars Program, which allows them to attend a partner technical college full-time while working part-time at BMW. BMW provides tuition assistance for the Scholars Program, helping students earn a degree while gaining real-world work experience. 

The D3 Board of Trustees then recognized Mr. Jeff Gibson, Automotive Technology Instructor, and Mr. Clint Swofford, Mechatronics Instructor, at Daniel Morgan Technology Center, for their work in helping prepare students for the BMW Rising Scholars Program.
