Congratulations to Marley Tanner, who was named both Spartanburg School District Three's STEM Student of the Year and Spartanburg County's STEM Student of the Year during last month's Spartanburg Science Center STEM Student of the Year recognition program!
Each year, teachers from across Spartanburg County nominate outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). District finalists participate in an interview process, and a panel from the Spartanburg Science Center selects both district and county winners.
We'd also like to congratulate our outstanding District Three finalists:
Colton Crowe
Adiline Fowler
Abby Maldonado
Avalyn Simpson
We are proud of you!

Since 1976, wooden cutout soldiers of the American Revolution have been located at Town Hall. The soldier cutouts were first renovated in the 1990s. Over the years, the cutouts began to fade and faced natural weathering.
Last month, two Cowpens family-owned businesses, C & C Thunder Custom Cycles and Joe Ponder's Used Cars, purchased materials and hired a local artist, Sheila Abbott, to restore the soldier displays. Students in Daniel Morgan Technology Center's carpentry program played a key role in the project by cutting out each of the soldier figures. Ms. Abbott then painted the cutouts and prepared them for display outside Town Hall.
Thanks to the combined efforts of our students, local businesses, volunteers, and community leaders, these soldiers will serve as a reminder of Cowpens' heritage for generations to come. Great job, students!
