Students at Pacolet Elementary School enjoyed their Summer Reading Fun Day last week!

The day gave students in grades 5K through 5th grade the opportunity to celebrate their summer reading through fun, book-inspired activities.

Students in 5K–2nd grade read Amelia Bedelia Means Business over the summer. They brought the story to life through creative building challenges, an interactive Story Walk, the “Sour Pants” lemonade toss, and cozy Campfire Reading.

Students in 3rd–5th grade read The Mouse and the Motorcycle over the summer. They enjoyed an exciting scavenger hunt, a “Mighty Rescue” challenge to help Ralph escape, and creative hotel brochures designed from Ralph’s perspective.

Great job, Panthers!

Exciting news at DMTC!

Daniel Morgan Technology Center (DMTC) has been awarded a $100,000 grant through the Timken Foundation Domestic Grant Program, providing a major investment in the future of welding and advanced manufacturing education for DMTC students.

The grant, awarded through the Timken Foundation US-Based Plant Community Grant initiative, will enhance hands-on learning opportunities by supporting the growth of DMTC's welding and advanced manufacturing programs. The funding will help ensure students have access to industry-relevant equipment and training that prepare them for high-demand careers in the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Timken's Duncan facility played an important role in supporting the application. Tim Boosz, Manager of the Timken Duncan Distribution Center, provided a letter of recommendation highlighting the importance of investing in workforce development and career and technical education.

"This generous investment from the Timken Foundation represents more than funding," said Dr. Nikki Honeycutt, Director of Daniel Morgan Technology Center. "With the support of the Timken Foundation, we will be able to provide students with enhanced learning experiences using industry-aligned equipment and technology that reflect today's manufacturing environment. These opportunities will help students graduate with the skills they need to succeed in high-demand careers while also benefiting industry in Spartanburg County."

By providing students with access to modern equipment and industry-aligned training, Daniel Morgan Technology Center continues to create pathways to high-wage, high-demand careers while supporting the workforce needs of local and regional employers.

Daniel Morgan Technology Center serves high school students from Spartanburg School District Three and Spartanburg School District Seven through career and technical education programs designed to prepare students for college, careers, and life.
