SPARTANBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT THREE CLOSED ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2026

Dear District Three families,

After careful consideration, Spartanburg School District Three will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This will be an eLearning Day. All afterschool and athletic events are also canceled.

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for this evening until Tuesday at noon. Overnight temperatures are expected to dip into the teens for parts of the upstate, including D3. These unusually low temperatures combined with existing ice are expected to create hazardous road conditions, making travel unsafe.

We are continuing to monitor weather and road conditions closely and will share additional updates as needed.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

eLearning Day Tuesday, January 27th, 2026

*SPARTANBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT THREE CLOSED ON MONDAY*

Dear District Three Families,

Based on the strong potential for inclement weather and hazardous travel conditions, Spartanburg School District Three will hold an eLearning Day on Monday, January 26, 2026.

This decision was made with the safety of our students and staff at the forefront. The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning beginning Saturday and continuing through Monday for the area of the upstate that includes D3.

Teachers helped prepare students today for assignments that will cover Monday as an eLearning Day and additional days if needed. The assignments accommodate options for those who experience power outages or have no internet access. Weather conditions are expected to worsen over the weekend, with below-freezing temperatures extending into next week.

We will continue to monitor conditions and share any additional updates as needed. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Fourth-grade Cannons Elementary School Champions received quite the surprise today!

What began as an afternoon history lesson on Charleston’s role in the American Revolution turned into exciting news: a free field trip to Charleston this spring, where students will experience that history firsthand!

It's all because Mrs. Tonya McCullough won the Teaching America250 Award for South Carolina!

This honor, through the Jack Miller Center in Philadelphia, awards 51 teachers nationwide (one from each state and Washington, D.C.) with a $5,000 grant in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

That money is used to fund a project of each teacher's design that engages students with the history of America’s founding and the ideals of the Declaration of Independence. Mrs. McCullough chose a trip to Charleston to visit Fort Moultrie along with several other historical sites.

Students will also have the opportunity to attend a separate field trip to Cowpens Battlefield as part of the award.

Congratulations, Mrs. McCullough!
